My father, Captain Marvin Blair, USN (Ret.) designed and supervised the production of the battle flag when he was assigned to Blackfin. I have the original flag in a box in my basement. My father has told me the story many times regarding how he was assigned the task of designing the flag. If anyone is interested, I can provide further details.
I am the Commanding Officer of USCGC BLACKFIN stationed in Santa Barbara CA. We have what must have been a later production of this flag in our office. To my knowledge it was presented to the cutter upon her commissioning in 2000 because of our namesake. As of right now the flag is cased and hung on the main office wall, I would be grateful for information you could provide that would enable me to put a description together to display with the flag itself.
