Friday, September 2, 2011 12:30 AM

This color film of the Japanese Surrender was taken on 2 September 1945 by Commander George F. Kosco, USN. In 2010, the Kosco family restored the film and kindly presented the NHHC with a copy of the film. Original film is silent.

What an amazing piece of history we have the honor of witnessing. The sacrifice that all of the Armed Forces have made over the years is not lost on me. I am thankful to everyone who has served and would like to thank the Kosco family for providing us with this incredible recording of such a historic moment.
